Three Feet of Snow
05:08

He headed out- out into the snow.
With a fire to keep other people warm.
I scrubbed the floor- white as bone.
So it’s a little cleaner for when you get home.
Through foggy windows I trace your tracks.
I chase mistakes in candlewax.
We’d be together through winters end.
So what’s this stench hiding in my bed?
~
A ruse in my cheek, a lie on my tongue.
Go to church and get clean after I’m done.
A stab in your back and a shout in my lungs.
Give into a life so sinful.
It’s like my body holds my conscience ransom.
Nothing to do but crumble in the mirror
Singing baby, baby come hither.
Baby baby baby come hither.
Baby baby baby baby- come hither.
A ruse in my cheek, a lie on my tongue.
~
I will take you and
I will keep you warm.
There’s nowhere that I’d rather be than
Three feet of Snow.
I’ve made mistakes but
Please come home.
Though I’ve been with other men
I love you most.
I’m prostrating here singing
Please come home.
Though I’ve been with other men
I love you most.

The Tide

There’s a ship on the horizon
You’re the wind in its sails.
Gusting away from this home we shared.
Your eyes- guiding lights.
Your voice- siren cries.
Sounding off in my hometown you anchored in.
Well I’m rooted to the land
You’re the water rolling through my hands.
I begged you to stay
But you’re pulled back by the sea.
I knew you would leave.
You came in a stranger
Just a shell on the shore.
I put you in my pocket not knowing the beauty you stored.
You whispered in my ear
Such dark secrets you shared.
I longed to heal you, bring you in from the storm
But rough choppy waters are all you’ve ever known.
I gave you my warmth
I gave you my hearthstone.
I knew you would leave.
We cackled like seagulls laughing
Wild and free.
Made love like waves going in and out naturally.
Well I tried to pull you in
Because Darling you know I can’t swim.
I’m your lover land-lubber.
You’re the whirlpool I’m drowning in.
Umph, scarce for breath
Knelt before your heaving breasts.
I’m strangled by seaweed
When your hair falls around me.
I knew you would leave.
Pacing on the docks
Just wandering, how to proceed.
Should I try to keep you or say goodbye gracefully?
You were just passing through
I wanted to spend my life with you.
Such a fool, thinking I can change the moon.
Well I’m rooted to the land
You’re the water rolling through my hands.
I begged you to stay
But the tide took you away.
I knew you would leave.
I knew you would leave.

Bay Breeze
04:33

I’m home
Just for one day.
Struggling with pebbles on Chesapeake Bay
Staring into tidepools like they’re from outer space.
Don’t ya know?
The fishermen with pock marked faces
I see myself in every single one of their cages.
Bars line these streets guarding us from our own ages.
Don’t ya know
That this Bay Breeze
Chills me to the bone when I’m home
My cousin Robert
Is in the first grade
He’s outgrown his dimples
See the writing on his face.
He struggles with his cursive
But he gets alright grades
Don’t ya know?
My sisters
They can’t stand me.
They say coming to annual parties doesn’t make you part of the family
Rambling halfway around the world while your father Stanley
Has a stroke
Now this Bay Breeze
It chills me to the bone when I’m home.
_
I can’t even describe
The way my pain sounds
I just keep moaning on
Until I lose control of my mouth.
It’s been almost muted since the day I first left
But it returns with a vengeance at each family death.
~
And I’m home
Just for one day
I’ll kick off my shoes when I get off the highway.
I’m counting in twos just to measure out complaints.
Don’t ya know
That this Bay Breeeeeeeeze
Chills me to the bone when I’m home.
